Counting Money and Giving Change

I am learning to recognise the value of NZ coins, to add, total and give change.

I can add the money. This one too hard,  I think $1.00

Keep trying Alston.  You were quick to add the coins but with more practise you will be able to work out the difference and give change for simple amounts.  Mrs Templeton  23.11.16

Predicting, Plot, Characters, Setting, and recognising Compound Words

I am learning to predict, to discuss the characters, plot and setting and to recognise compound words.

It was quite easy to read the book but it is tricky to answer the questions.  I know compound words.  I will have to think carefully about the story to answer.

You had a good attempt Alston.  We went over the book afterwards and talked about the type of answers we could give.  Keep trying to think as you read.  Great compound words.

Visual Art: Geometric Shape Art

I have been learning to observe and compare the works of other artists and to create my own art work using geometric shapes.

To be successful I needed to look at the works of Klee, Matisse and Kandinsky (right) and cut a range of shapes in different sizes and place them carefully to create my own masterpiece. (left)

Describing a Storm

I am learning to describe a storm using my senses.

To be successful I will choose interesting words to describe what I can see, hear and feel during a storm.

Maths

Counting On

I have been learning to count on from the bigger number first.

“I rolled 5 plus 6 so I made it 6 plus 5 because it is the bigger number.  Then I put 6 in my head and I counted the rest.”

In writing I am writing about my family.  I have been learning to use capital letters and full stops in the right places.

I liked writing about my family but I found it a bit hard remembering to put full stops in the right places.
