Reflection
In this activity my task is to work out how many days are left at school.
I found this tricky to work out how many hours we have left at school. I learnt that I can split my numbers into tens and ones to make it easier to solve the problem.

Explanation Writing - How to Grow Lettuce

Reflection
I am learning to write an explanation.
I found it tricky because I was not listening when we planted our lettuces for our garden.
The reason why I don't know how to grow lettuce is because I am not listening.

NZ Native Birds - Skimming and Scanning

Reflection I was learning to skim and scan to find information. I found interesting and learnt lots of facts. My buddy found facts about the Morepork and I found facts about the Hoiho.

Similarities and Differences

Reflection
I am learning to find similarities and differences between two birds. I worked with a buddy.
We found it tricky because we couldn't many similarities. I enjoyed this activity and learnt that a fantail only lives for 3 years.

E.P.S school values

                                Next time  I am going to ask a buddy for support.

The Scary House

I am learning to write a narrative poem. I learnt what alliteration was. I tried to use rhyming words in my poem but I found it tricky because I can't think of many rhyming words. Next time I could also try to use other language features like similies.

Maths Olympiads

   

Reflection In the Maths Olympiads I found the questions tricky but I still learned something. I really enjoyed being in the team.

Food chain

 Reflection
In this activity my task was tricky because I'm not sure what eats what.  I learnt that hawks eat other birds and spiders eat aphids and aphids eat rosebushes.

Unit Fraction of a set

Reflection
I was learning to find the fraction of a set. I found this task tricky because it had more circles so my answer was 8. The teacher talked to me about it and I realised I didn't need to use all the circles.

The Falcon - Vocabulary

Reflection
In this activity I was learning to extend my vocabulary and and some question about the text. I found this activity tricky because some of the questions and vocabulary are a bit tricky to answer. I need to stay more focussed during group reading and my independent work.

Shorty

Refection I am learning to link ideas (both implicit and explicit) in the text to give a greater understanding of the story. It was tricky to inference about Allison feelings because there weren't many clues to make an inference with.

Telling time in blocks of five minutes 1

Reflecion
I was learning to tell the time in 5 minute blocks. I  found it tricky to do the time in words and I need to work on.

In this activity we had a shared class book and I was learning to make connections. I didn't make any connections to other books or things I knew about. Next time I will try to make connecitons.

Place Value Partitioning

Reflection I was learning place value partitioning. I found it tricky because I couldn't explain place value but now I can. I also found it tricky to know how to split the numbers up but now know. I need to keep practising.

Flying Fungi - Summarise Information

Reflection I was learning to find and summarise information in a text by skimming and scanning. I found this tricky because I didn't really understand the story even though we had talked about it as a group. I need to listen more carefully and participate. I also found hard to summarise information because I did read my questions correctly.

Planning for Explanation Writing

Reflection Today I am learning to plan for explanation writing. I found this easy because I followed the pictures steps.

What is a habitat

We discussed with the class what a habitat is and came up with our own definition.  I learnt that habitats are things that helps living things grow.

What is a living thing?

Reflection I was learning to sort living and non-living things with a buddy. I found it easy because I all ready know what is a living thing.

A Moment In Time

Reflection
I was learning to use strategies to make my writing more interesting. I used learnt what a simile and used it in my writing. I used interesting adjectives. I could work on using these strategies in other writing.

I am good at hitting a softball and it flew very far away.

Reflection In this activity I was learning to make and justify inferences with clues from the book. I found this tricky to find the clues and need to keep working on inferencing

Room 14's favourite fruit

Reflection
In this activity I was learning to do a cycle of enquiry about Room 14's favourite fruit.  It was tricky to remember the person you asked before. I enjoyed this and next I would like to do Room 14's favourite pets.

Bio poem

Reflection I was learning to write a bio poem. I learnt what a bio poem is about myself. It was hard to think what I'm good at. I feel the task is challenging.

Welcome to my year 4 learning blog this year I am in Room 14 and my teacher is Mrs Prendergast.  I enjoy to do mathletics on a device.  This year I am looking forward to become super good at reading.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
